Impermanent by nature
What tea and incense together capture is a simple idea: that the ephemeral, from the steam rising from a cup of tea to the smoke curling from a stick of incense, deserve as much care as anything permanent.
This idea informs our guiding philosophy. We believe that moments of connection are to be cherished. That craftsmanship should be appreciated even for items we consume. That small acts of kindness to those around us and to the planet that we call home are worthy of our time.
The Five Elements
The classical five elements of Chinese philosophy, or Wuxing, is an inspiration for each of our offerings. Our incense seeks to evoke the soul of a particular element, so that those who resonate with the personality associated with it may find the best match for their desired ambience. From the warmth of fire to the complexity of metal, there is a ritual for everyone.
Craft Tradition
One of our pillars is the respect for craftsmanship and the care which is put into each of our offerings. Our tea is grown by a third-generation tea farmer whose family has tended the same 32 acres on the slopes of Mt. Cheyun for nearly a century. Our incense is made by a 16th generation master artisan working in the same tradition as that which once made incense for imperial divination. Each is a living testament to the indomitable human spirit.
Sustainability
We take care to treat the Earth kindly, not least because our products come from it. The estate from which we source our tea is located entirely within an ecological conservation zone, and no pesticides are ever used in the growing process. Our packaging sleeves are made with 100% recycled paper that incorporates leftover tea leaves from processing operations. Meanwhile, our linen ash mats are upcycled from rural villages in Henan and feature natural prints made with local vegetation.
