Xinyang, a quiet town in the southern tip of Henan province, is renowned for its tea and the unhurried lifestyle around it which has developed over the centuries. It is also our founder's hometown.
Our name, Mao Mao, comes from her childhood nickname (毛毛). In Chinese, it happens to be the same character as that in Maojian (毛尖).

Nearly a decade spent in the pulse of New York left our founder yearning for a gentler rhythm. Mao Mao was born from that desire to slow down and reconnect with the traditions and lifestyle of her hometown.
We set out to create a ritual that would help people facing similar anxieties ease into a calmer state of mind after a hectic day. Reaching into history, we took inspiration from the classical arts of tea and incense appreciation. Each expression would in turn be inspired by one of the traditional Chinese elements, encapsulating a variety of personalities and tastes.
